02 - Eyebeams

My mothers favorite, she lets me know every call we have and every now and then she will re-like it on insta.

This is the first one I completed for this project. Arguably this one existed before the project began.

The Process

This is the eye beam, check the effect stack! I left in some attempts in the stacks.

Here is the character and the eye beams, check out the effect stack I used to make it move and how I colored it.

First step is to build a shape layer, a square shape layer. Then add wave warps and turbulent displace to get the motion just right. Several tutorials exist on this here’s two of my favorites - Jake in Motion and Ben Marriot.

The final thing I wanted to accomplished was the energy density, I used fractal noise for this and played around with the evolution.

Using the same beam meant that I needed to make them look a little different in another layer, I did this primarily by offsetting the beams and using very different mesh warps on the eye beam composition.
